History of the Sabha
The Gnana Bodha Sabha Malaysia was founded in 1985 with the spiritual guidance of His Holiness Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji, who is the pontiff of the Datta Peetham in Mysore, India.
Sri Swamiji was introduced to Malaysian devotees in 1980 by the late Shri I.K. Moorthy. When Sri Swamiji first came to Malaysia and started having bhajans, the Sabha didn't have a permanent venue for bhajans. We were utilising temples, devotees' homes and rented dwellings to conduct our weekly bhajans and poojas.
Now, the Sabha maintains an ashram of its own at 47-A, Kampung Kasipillay, Kuala Lumpur, where we are involved in social and spiritual activities. Weekly satsangs are held on Sunday mornings and Hanuman pooja is also held regularly. All bhajans performed are compositions of His Holiness Sri Swamiji, and the bhajans are in several Indian languages, for example, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Hindi.
Besides bhajans, yoga sessions are held in the ashram on Sunday mornings. There are classical vocal and tabla classes conducted for the public on Sundays as well.
As the ashram maintains deities of Dattatreya, Ganapathi and Hanuman, regular poojas and prayers are conducted by our resident priest.
